Vale John Bull

It is with great sadness that the Lions Club of Berowra announces the passing yesterday of club member and past club President, John Bull, after a long illness, at the age of 70.

John had been a vital member of our club since 2012. He served two terms as Club President during 2017-2019, despite battling illness at the time. He led the club with distinction, and was a mentor and inspiration to many.

Always a man of vision, Berowra can thank him for many of the ideas that he raised over the years - most recently the Warrina Street Oval Exercise pods that were his idea initially. He worked tirelessly for years to make it a reality, and it was fitting that he was present at the opening of stage one last year, despite being gravely ill.

John was a tower of strength. For many years he confounded his doctors, who would repeatedly tell him that he would not survive to Christmas - yet year after year, he did. He became affectionately known in the club as "The man of steel", or just simply "Our Superman".

Last year John was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship - the highest honour that a Lions Club can bestow - in recognition of his leadership and dedicated work for the club and the Berowra community.

He leaves behind his wife Jen, an extended family and a community that will all miss him greatly. Berowra is a better place because of his life, and poorer for his passing.

Our sincere condolences go to Jen and family.
