Local Youth of the Year Wrap - We're In Safe Hands

Local high school students were showcased last night when the Lions Club of Berowra conducted its Youth of the Year program, aimed at young people aged between 15 and 19 and designed to encourage, foster and develop leadership skills.

Initially, six students from Asquith Girls High, Knox Grammar, Mount St Benedict and Loreto Normanhurst participated in a gruelling day comprising a 40 minute interview with four eminent local judges, followed in the evening with a dinner and public speaking competition involving two impromptu questions and one five minute prepared speech.

Graham Estreich, Vice President of Berowra Lions commented that "All participants were a credit to their schools and families. If this is the quality of our local youth, our future is in safe hands".

The overall winner of this round of the competition was Mr Adam Soonius from Knox Grammar School. Adam said of his experience "This is one of the most challenging experiences I’ve ever completed, but one that I will value immensely. It's taught me to be organised, and to be prepared for any situation. I am looking forward to representing Berowra in the next stages of the competition".
